What types of dogs leave the least amount of hair on clothes and the floor?
I am interested in eventually buying a dog. However, i hate when dog hair gets on my clothes and all over the floor. What types of dogs are less likely to shed a lot and/or get hair all over my the floor and my things? I'm very interested in dogs such as Siberian Huskies, Dobermans, Labs, etc.

- Ha, those dogs you listed are some of the biggest shedders. EVERY breed of dogs shed. A dog that sheds less would be a Poodle. Sorry.
- standard poodles or Airedales are in your size range and don't shed at all
- We have a Boxer and she doesn't shed very much. I noticed a little shedding when her winter coat started coming in and I imagine she'll shed when it grows out(she's only 7 mo old). She's very short and fine haired so when I do notice doggie hairs, we're talking three or four rather than a handful.
- The shorter the coat the more the dog will shed. Dobes and Labs are high shedders. Huskies were bred to live in arctic temperatures. . . they shed a lot. The least shedding breeds will be the ones whose hair grows infinitely long, such as Poodle, Bichon, Shih Tzu, etc. Also, you haver your hairless breeds such as the Chinese Creasted and Mexican Hairless, etc. Maybe you could consider the Portugese Water Dog, Curly Coated Retriever, or maybe even a Terrier of some kind. ana
- The answer is very simple. You need to get a dog that has hair not fur. Even short haired dogs shed....It's just shorter.
- Of the three dogs you listed the Doberman would probably be your best choice. It has shorter hair, so when it sheds it is not as noticeable as the other two dogs you listed. A Boxer might be a good choice for you too.
- Hi , One dog I know for sure does not shed is the" LHASO ALPSO". .I owned one, they are adorable, full of personality. It is a small dog. I am not sure of a large breed that doesn't shed. Smiles, Suzanne suzannerfuselier@yahoo.com
- Dogs with fur that is more like a lamb's fleece will still shed but very, very small amounts and very rarely... for example, poodles, their fur is different, not like regular dogs and it hardly sheds!! I have a mixed dog but mostly bichon frise who hardly sheds ever! Not sure about pure bred bichon frise but that is worth looking into as well... Basically any short hair dogs will shed lots cause their fur doesn't grow, so it sheds more to compensate. Long hair dogs who have straighter hair (fur i mean) shed more often too cause of the type of fur... But like the poodle fur, it kind of curls back on itself and hardly falls out... hard to explain... but still true... the other thing is that most dogs need grooming anyway, so if you take our dog aside and brush/comb their fur somewhere you can clean up easily, like outside or on a towel, then you are collecting all the loose fur before it has a chance to shed on you, much like humans brush their hair everyday too... Even though my dog's fur hardly sheds, I still keep it quite short because it's easier to maintain, their fur can also get matted if you don't brush it every now and then, so keeping it trimmed helps prevent matting.. (knots) If you're interested in cats too fyi... cornish rex and devon rex both have similar fur to poodles, in that it's very like lamb's wool, it curls back on itself, soft and fleecey so it never sheds - these cats are highly recommended by all professionals particularly for asthma and allergy sufferers.... hope you find the right pet for you!! don't forget to check out animal shelters and pounds your perfect dog could be waiting there for you!! xoxox
- sum dogs dnt shed at all all like a poodle sum dogs shed a lil u can also get a "naked" dog,it has no fur((its kinda weird))
- Boxers shed very little. All dogs shed, but it is the longer haired ones that shed the most and it is way more visible.
- i have a bichon freaze cross maltease and she barely sheds and he is tiny. they have great personalities and are very human friendly.
- if it has hair it sheds. Some breeds do shed less than others, such as poodles portugese water dogs and airedales.. however these breeds have long coats that require grooming and daily brushing. Hairless dogs dont shed, there are Chinese Cresteds, Peruvian Inca Orchids, American Hairless Terriers, and Xoloitzcuintle (mexican hairless).. Peruvians and standard sized Xolos are the larger hairless breeds. Hairless dogs do require skin care tho to prevent dry skin, sunburn, acne and skin irritations.
- Most of those dogs you listed definitely shed. My dog is a shih tzu. He is on the small side, but he has little to absolutely NO shedding whatsoever. :)
