How come some people dont care about animals becoming extinct?

My teacher keeps telling my class about it but they always go ' shut up i dont care' or 'so what?'

  1. Extinction is a natural process, we just make it all go a bit faster. Don't worry, once the carrying capacity for the human species is reached...we will learn our lesson in a "OH MY GOD WE ARE DEAD" kind of way.
  2. Well, it's the way they are raised. Bad parents almost always make bad kids. Bad parents who think their purpose on life is to eat, have sex, buy two SUV's and have a big home can't be expected to care for the environment. It's sad that no one cares.
  3. we are experiencing a very "ME" generation growth spurt. a lot of people could give a crap abooutanyone but themselves let alone these animals. a lot of things will become extinct at this rate unfortunately.
  4. well, i for one care about animals becoming extinct! it's unfair for the animals when we go off and kill them for sport! and when people dont care, they're just cold hearted. aha i know this has nothing to do with the subject but, im korean too :)
  5. It usually does not benefit most individual humans to save some species of animal or palnt. But it benefits us all collectively because that animal or plant might later be used to cure some disease, provide a new food source, balance the ecology, etc. This conflict between what is collectively and individually important is called the "tragedy of the commons." (It comes up in many places and forms, this is just one of them.)
  6. cause we(humans) think we rule the earth, or at least many humans think so. during the time that humans have been on earth, they have damaged it more than animals did before humans came. we were on this planet for thousands of year, and we have destoyed it more than animals did in 4 billion years(since the earths creation).
  7. Because nowadays, people only care about money and themselves. Even with all the evidence that global warming is causing extinctions, people still don't really care. Funny how they'll spend billions of dollars to check if there is life on Mars(i.e. germs) when we have so many varieties of life here that need help.
