Cross Breeds

Will it one day be possible to genetically breed extinct animals?

  1. I once watched a documentary called 'Jurassic Park', which showed it happening. It's already been done, but it ended terribly so they didn't bother again.
  2. What ever a person can think of can become a reality
  3. "... once watched a documentary called 'Jurassic Park', which showed it happening. It's already been done, but it ended terribly so they didn't bother again." This, my friend, is fiction. It is not a documentry. Documentries are usually not in series, they do not have a storyline. Scientists would certainly not begin this nearly impossible feat with a creature not well known to men that appears dangerous.
  4. Yes of course it will, providing they are not dead. It then becomes a struggle.
  5. ponder this: what if alien abductions are just a way to keep our species from dying out. it could be possible that they are collecting d.n.a. samples so the day we blow ourselves up, they will be able to breed our species back into existance.-blurey
  6. I wouldn't be surprised if they could one day. Animal remains still contain the DNA, which they could implant into an egg. Who knows maybe it's just around the corner.
  7. Sir Marmalade Beauville-Lobe IV - lol! Francesca- loosen up! Anyway- if there are genetic samples that are complete and totally undamaged, then it could be possible. To reestablish a population of the species though we would need many many perfect genetic samples from different indivuals other wise inbreeding and re-extinction would occur. Without having a population, it seems like it would be hard to study much of their natural behavior so I see no real advantage in creating many.
  8. I'm going to say yes unless the large snarling creature with the big teeth behind me is just a gecko or something #gulp#
  9. quite honestly i disagree with everyone on here.. scientists do insane things all the timne .. like create bombs franceso.. i dunno if its possible but if they could i think they would....with cloning now possible it might be if they have the dna... i dunno about dinosaurs cuz they lived so long ago and separating teh dna from the mosquito like in jurassic park seems pretty far fetched.... my guess is that yahoo answers isnt a good place to ask this question... you need to ask someone who is very well educated in dna and cloning.. a scientist.... none of us really know
  10. success_marker is right, if you have a perfect and intact DNA sample then yes, in theory it is possible. But DNA is not that stable and to my knowledge no even near complete sample has ever been found. And to keep the specie going, you would either have to have a large number of samples from a large number of individuals (preferable non related individuals), or modify the DNA enough to creat the illusion of different individuals, something that would requier an extensive knowledge of the species genome, which sort of is impossible if the animal is extinct (and we are don't have anywhere near the knowledge to to this at this point anyway). You would also need an extensive knowledge about the animals gestation period, nutritional needs ect to be able to create a good surrogate womb to breed it in. I have a hard time seeing any of this happening, and I really can't see the point in trying (although that certainly have never stopped people before), but yes, in theory if would be possible. But it's not probable.
  11. sure possible ,, with DNA.
