Are there any extinct animals because of Global Warming?

Are there any extinct animals because of Global Warming? I need to know, best answer gets 10 points. Global warming does exist, this is why the ozone layer has the same thickness as 2 pennies

  1. No because global warming doesn't exist? Is some stupid teacher asking you this? You can't say with certainty that climate change killed a species. See apparently your teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about. Public schools... See I really don't understand why there is such a zeal to save endangered species, some species naturally die out, by ensuring their survival we are actually harming the natural balance. Granted I'm talking about species not effected by humanity, merely species that are dieing out naturally due to propogating problems ect...
  2. Well the Homo Logicus has certainly been put on the endangered species list... The Woolly Mammoths and Rhinos went extinct due to global warming...so did the sabre-toothed cat.
  3. I don't know of any animals that have gone extinct due to global warming between say, 1850 and 2008. But just to clarify something, the depletion of the ozone layer and global warming have absolutely nothing to do with each other. The presence of one does absolutely nothing to prove or disprove the other. About the only thing the two phenomena have in common is the atmosphere.
  4. there are no specific animals that have been listed as extinct yet because of global warming. many are becoming extinct such as polar bears, but as of yet no animals have been listed extinct. however, even becoming extinct is a big enough deal that everyone (even the republicans) needs to realize and acknowledge that global warming is happening and we need to take action now before we can no longer do anything about it.
  5. no the problem is that most animals go extinct because of a few different reasons and pinning down the cause to global warming would be hard if not imposable.
  6. It's difficult to attribute the extinction of a species to any single ecological issue. But the current rate of extinction does seem to be significantly higher than historic averages and the rate is a concern for some. Here's a link to one story ("Is Global Warming Leading to Extinction?") that may help you in your research: http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Story?id=942506&page=1
  7. Yes, actually many have died because of egotistic imbeciles who use hair spray like 24/7. Many animals have become extinct due to Global Warming, because the temperatures are getting too high for that animal to live in. A Polar Bear is a good example of animals being endangered because of Global Warming. The high temperatures are melting their habitats, forcing them to drown, or starve because the animals they live on are also becoming scarce, due to Global Warming. It also affects animals that live in a warm habitats, because it's getting too hot, or the water supplies are drying up. The people of our generation need to fight for these dying animals, and to stop global warming, to ensure our future, and theirs.
  8. there hasn't been a ny recorded extinctions for many years but there could be if we dont do something about this problem.
  9. global warming has very little to do with the ozone layer, so you have already demonstrated your lack of knowledge on the subject. Animals will go extinct because we came and took their land, not because we drive cars. Think of how much wildlife habitat has been changed to human habitat.... that is the real cause for any extinctions of this time. I cant think of anything that has gone extinct except some river dolphins and some butterflies...
  10. Most species are pretty resilient, in fact the fossil record shows 5 millions years before going extinct is quite normal. During that time there will be a lot of climatic variation. However environmental change is a driving force for extinction: at this stage it is most likely that something like global warming induced habitat loss combined with direct pressure from humans (e.g. hunting etc.) would cause extinction. However as the climate continues to warm that risk will become much greater and climate change alone could begin to cause extinction.
  11. Humans almost went extinct due to climate change that lasted only about 5 years (cooling due to volcanic eruption): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toba_catastrophe_theory "According to the Toba catastrophe theory, 70,000 to 75,000 years ago a supervolcanic event at Lake Toba, on Sumatra, reduced the world's human population to 10,000 or even a mere 1,000 breeding pairs, creating a bottleneck in human evolution." The extinctions from climate warming were even more devastating long before humans were around: Climate Model Links Warmer Temperatures to Permian Extinction http://www.physorg.com/news6003.html "The CCSM indicated that ocean temperatures warmed significantly at higher latitudes because of rising atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The warmer temperatures reached a depth of about 10,000 feet (4,000 meters), interfering with the normal circulation process in which colder surface water descends, taking oxygen and nutrients deep into the ocean. As a result, ocean waters became stratified with little oxygen, proving deadly to marine life. Because marine organisms were no longer removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, that, in turn, accelerated warming temperatures. "The implication of our study is that elevated [carbon dioxide] is sufficient to lead to inhospitable conditions for marine life and excessively high temperatures over land would contribute to the demise of terrestrial life," the authors conclude.
