  1. Maine Coon cats are big gentle giants, they are remarkably loveable in view of their size. They can get quite big so be prepared. But as any animal, you get what you put in. Congrats on your new baby XXXX
  2. They are known as "the gentle giants". They have a laid back personality but are semi-active cats. They are not really lap cats due to the long coat, but will sit by you. Males typically are 16+ lbs; many of them grow to 20-25 lbs when fully grown at 4-5 yrs old. MC's are popular and there are a lot of byb's out there professing to breed MC's - these are look a likes longhair domestics. Reputable breeders will screen their cats for some heart related problems and possible hip dysplasia that is showing up in the larger breed cats now. Expect to pay $800 for pet quality kittens from a reputable breeder. Also they will need to be combed (not brushed) 2-3 times a week to keep mats from forming.
  3. Maine Coon kittens are on the larger side. They are very playful and love to climb on things, like to be up on chairs, counters and up high just as the adults do. The will play and play then fall asleep right were they are at times. Play with their toes extending their claws so they will get use to you clipping them. Combing them also. They can be very lovable and sweet and some like not to cuddle but I pick them up and cuddle anyway and then let them down after a short time. Talk to the breeder and find out what the parents are like, most likely they will follow after the momma cat. Ask to see the parents and watch them. Make sure you can call the breeder if you have any questions at all they will be the ones who can help you the most. Make sure you get your kitten to the vet within a couple of days to make sure you got a healthy kitten and your vet gets a base line on the kitten and get to know you and the kitten. Remember they will not stay that cute fluffy kitten, they grow to be a large cat who live a long and happy life if you take care of it properly. Bonding with a new kitten is easy. Keep the kitten in your room with its food, water and litter box for about a week or two. You leave some dirty clothes on the floor and replace with newer dirty clothes daily. This leaves your scent down where the kittens nose. This will replace the scent of their old home and owners with yours. You can take the kitten to explore the house with your watching it but bringing it back to your room. During this time you can show the kitten where the other litter box is and other food and water is. The places where they will be after the first couple of weeks. Do not buy a small litter box either they are large cats and need jumbo litter boxes. Do not change their food all the time use what the breeder tells you. That is what the kitten is use to. R P CAT
