extinct animals?
how do we know about extinct animals
Public Comments
- Previous fossils , examing them to get a rough idea of skeletal shape......... Computering can merge ideas from the extinct animals relatives to form a picture)
- We know about them because they existed within recorded human history (eg.Dodo) or because we have found their remains/fossils (eg.dinosaurs).
- from fossils and accounts from caves (cave paintings), etc. from primary accounts, researchers use them
- dodo
- You mean how do we know they have gone extinct? Well, we have witness the extinct of several species. Like the passenger pigeon and the dusky seaside sparrow and the dodo. We do a some biological info on the some of the more recent animal extinctions. There is plenty of data on the dusky seaside sparrow. The greatest extinct was the dinosaurs. We have plenty of fossil records. The experts have pieced together data from fossil records, ice cores, earth cores and sea sediments to get an idea of what living conditions were like. So by associating the animals life style with it's habitat you can get an idea of what it must have lived like.
- fossils and bones
- We know because we can see how animals we have been observing for decades have evolved, we can use this evidence alongside evidence provided by fossils or DNA or other organic matter to bridge the gap using a logical approach. There are also many drawings or descriptions from natives to the areas where these animals came from, which tell us how they are similar to other creatures still alive now.
- Any species are said to be extinct when the genetic diversity in that species are too small for the species to naturally reproduce on its own, given that the species are still found in a natural environment. That is why we sometimes hear about local extinction of a species. Individuals in for instance a zoo, are therefore not seen as a viable population for the further breeding and existence of a species. Some species may bounce back from the above explanation through co operation between conservation agency's, but it is doubtfully if such a species will ever be able to fill its specific niche nature.
- If you dont see them...they're not real.
