How to talk to this boy I like on facebook?

He knows I like him and he told me he likes me too but when I start a conversation with him there are a lot of pauses. For example.. me: Do you have any pets? Him: yeah 2 cats me:cool, I have 3 cats. :D him: cool. ... end of conversation. How am I supposed to keep the conversation going if his only answer is 'cool.' ?! Thanks.
