How do I get my dogs feet used to the snow/cold?
We just moved to a very cold and snowy climate from the south and my dogs not used to the snow on his feet. We can only go out for a few minutes at a time before he starts hopping on 3 to get off of one. We got him booties to help but occasionally lose one then have to dig it out. Any advice on how to make this easier for him? Thanks!

- u cant really get him used or ammuned. well u can get him ammuned. dont really cut his fur alot. let it grow. dry him everytime he comes inside, go out side with him and get on ur hands to, it will make him think that its ok, unless hes not scared. just go outside alot. he will get ammuned over time. if he was outside alot when u were in the south, make sure you let him be in the cold more and more, take it slow, some dogs are able to go into shock, and get very sick hope this helps;)
- It will take time. Just limit his outside time to very short. In time he will become used to the cold. I can't tell you when, it just takes time. Just like it will take you time to adjust to the cold.
- You can put a couple of pairs of socks on them. Maybe that would be more comfy for him. Or you could buy a smaller pair of boots. I hope this helps! Good luck! :-)
- get better boots ... these boots do not come off ... it took some serious chicken to get the dogs to wear them but if the weather calls for it, it is required ... and is it the cold or the salt that is hurting your dogs paws ... if it is salt and not just brutal cold then you could get something like musher's secret which is a balm to put on their paws to protect from the salt, i did not find it protected much from the cold when it is -40 though ... http://www.neopaws.com/
