what is the cheapest way to build a dog sled? i don't want it for racing just to use around the yard?

I have two Huskies at home and I want to find out the cheapest way to build a dog sled. Last winter I hooked up a sled to their back connected from a harness and they pulled me. Please help me find out the cheapest way to build one, not for racing but just for going around the yard on.

  1. just bet a Little plastic sled there like 10 dollars
  2. Around the yard, I would just get a sturdy children's sled or toboggan from the local Wal-Mart and have fun on that. My Belgian Malinois helps us haul firewood by pulling one similar to these: http://img04.static-nextag.com/image/Lot-Of-3-48/0/000/007/842/671/784267103.jpg and he's taken us for a spin around the yard as well. With two dogs, your other option would be to get a pair of cross-country skis and a rock climbing belt and try skijoring - my Mal and my old Lab both used to love to pull me around the yard and on trails through the woods for hours during the winter. Making your own dog sled, even a cheap one, will be almost impossible. I know a sled-maker (actually the one who made all the sleds for the movie "Iron Will") and it takes a LOT of tools, time, and experience to make something that will work even minimally. Good luck!
  3. Get a sled or a toboggan, it'll work just fine. Get the big sturdy black plastic ones from Wal Mart. We took some dude from work dog sledding in one of those and it worked just fine. Don't need runners for two huskies to pull you around the yard. Also, if you can pick up a cheap snowboard you might have fun with that.
