Why are dogs and cats mortal enemies? ?

I know angels can't enter the house of those who have dogs, but why would that make cats their mortal enemy?

  1. dogs and cats are not mortal enemies.
  2. Generally speaking, cats are more calm and solitary animals whereas dogs are social and very active- direct opposite. However, my cat and dog are best friends. Once they get used to each other it's more about personalities than stereotypes. That's my guess anyway. :)
  3. My past three dogs have loved my cats and at times protected them. I once had a police trained Alsatian and a cat called smudge the Alsatian (Xena) loved the cat and protected him. Two other dogs once cornered my cat at different times and I swear the cat and dog could talk to one another as the two same dogs in turn were pinned to the middle of the road by the Alsatian. It was like anyone who harmed the cat Xena would chase them catch them and sort of beat them up for hurting the cat. The dog and cat I have now are not so much friends the cat can't stand playing with the dog but the dog loves to play with the cat.
  4. Cats have a different mentality of dogs, but they are both pack animals. I would think a cats and dogs curiosity about their differences either makes them appreciative of the other or hate. Cats and dogs get along, but imo if a big sloppy dog charges after me because it wants to smell me I might strike it. Cats use their noses but not like a dog. Dogs learn by sniffing as well bit cats don't and that might make a difference in their toleration of the other.
  5. Wow, I'm not sure where you get your information. But I have 3 cats and 3 dogs. The reason for an even number is because each dog has a cat. One in particular "Mr. Waffles" has been called "catdog" for the past 6months because he refuses to leave his dog "Yoda" he follows her everywhere and thinks he too is a dog. We teach tolerance in our home so we do not have fighting.
  6. Cats and dogs can get along. Cats are just more territorial sometimes, they are more independent than dogs and independent thinkers. In my opinion even though they don't show it cats are smarter.
  7. You've been watching too many cartoons
  8. Simply put (and already answered), they are not enemies. In general dogs love to chase things. Cats usually run when they are unsure about their surroundings. Dogs chase cats that run. If a fat doesn't run and the dog doesn't chase, you can have great friends between dogs and cats. Personally, I have 4 dogs who absolutely love our cat. They snuggle together.
  9. ITS BECAUSE DOGS ARE VERY STUPID ANIMALS WHICH LIKE TO CHASE AND ATTACK ANYTHING THEY SEE. THIS CAN HOWEVER BE AVOIDED BY GOOD TRAINING AND INTELLIGENT OWNER BEHAVIOUR. SADLY THOUGH, ALMOST EVERYONE WHO GETS A DOG IS A MORON WITH FAECES FOR BRAINS, WHO CAN BARELY LOOK AFTER THEMSELVES AND RAISE THEIR FAT UGLY CHILDREN NOT TO DOLE SCROUNGERS
  10. My dogs love my cat and I have never heard that Angles could not enter the house of those that have dogs. Never been a problem here.
  11. you don't train them? you train to chase?
