Cross Breeds

why are dogs and cats supposed to be enemies?

Ive seen a lot of families having both dogs and cats , ans they are fine why when we always see a dog we remotely think him chasing a cat? not a rabbit for a example?

  1. its weird hey?
  2. their not really their just 2 different species and they know it but if you bring them up together like i did they'll get along like family.
  3. The reason that dogs are supposed to be "cat's enemies" is that almost all dogs used to be bred for hunting purposes. They were taught to chase all different types of small animals. Their hunting ability/instinct is pretty much gone now for many dogs (not all). And in the media, the cat is always shown being afraid/chased by the dog, which has given people a somewhat distorted image of how dogs and cats interact. Most dogs and cats will get a long just fine as long as the are introduced as kitten and puppy. However, if you introduce an adult dog with a real hunting instinct who has never seen a cat before in his life to a cat, they would most likely be enemies. Hope this helped!
