Why is everybdy suddenly getting German Shepherd Puppies?

Almost every? On Y!A is about a German shepherd puppy, including mine. Why do you think people are suddenly getting them? Please state your opinion / answer below. =]

1. GSDs have been on the AKC top ten for years. They are great protectors as well as wonderful family dogs. They have a temperment fit for a large farm or a small home. They are a versatile dog. And of course, wanting a puppy because it is young so you have it longer.
2. More people are recognizing them - a lot of dog breeds run in cycles and the shepherd is one of them.
3. I don't think people are 'suddenly' getting German Shepherd puppies-it might just seem that way because of the questions people are asking. I HOPE people are deciding to get the breed because they have done research and know this breed is the correct breed for their family/lifestyle and that they will be able to provide it with proper care(including exercise when it is old enough) I also hope people aren't just getting this breed because of it's appearance or just because it was 'available' when they decided they wanted to get a puppy/dog. Otherwise the shelters will be welcoming some German shepherds soon.
4. German Shepherds are very versatile dogs. They are also very intelligent and easy to train, if you have experience, or if you work with a professional trainer. They certainly aren't for everyone though. A German Shepherd with a high drive and an inexperienced owner can be a nightmare. Many people are getting them for guard dogs and protection, because crime rates going up in most areas. Some people think they will have an instant guard dog without proper training. It doesn't work that way, they can be a huge liability with poor breeding, or no training.
