Are cats really aloof, and not as loving as dogs?

I hear people say this, but I don't agree. I have a cat and a dog. Whenever I get home, they both come bounding towards me, jump on me, and meow and bark (respectively, of course). It's so cute, they compete for my attention. Both are just as loyal as the other. My cat is a Siamese male, my dogs a female Pomeranian.

  1. Yes they are more aloof and not as engaging as dogs. When they do engage you it is usually for their own needs, eg food, or to be patted, or to play with you. Yes they are more aloof, but can still be good pets.
  2. There you go, an Oriental cat! Always more dog-like than other cats. My experience of cats suggests that in general, cats are more aloof than dogs however, choosing when THEY want to associate with their owners. But there's no doubt the Siamese and other Orientals are different.
  3. siamese, are a one person cat... and very intelligent... i used to have one that chased after me like a dog, and another that used to fetch a teddy... cats are more independant... where as a dog needs you!
  4. IMO, cats are just as loving as dogs. My cats hate it when I leave and are there at the door when I get back so they definitely have missed me. My little siamese mix will put her 2 paws on my calf and give me a little nip, that for her is her way of giving me a kiss:) She has always acted like a little dog. One will rub against my legs for a while and the other one talks to me.....
  5. some are very affectionate and purr loudly when fussed, cats near me often come up to me just for a fuss as they know i love them
