Cross Breeds

why is my boxers muzzle a little longer than otheer boxer dogs?

I bought a boxer dog from my friend and now that its like 4 months old the muzzle seems a little longer than most boxer dogs, both his parents look like pure breed there muzzles are short and all crumble up. My boxer has the same colors that a boxer is soppose to have but idk the snout is a little longer wat yall think.?

  1. every dog is different, i would be glad, your dog is special! :)
  2. WE can't tell you what your dog is, only your breeder can. You need more proof than just "looking at the parents." Where are the papers? Do the parents have papers? Titles? Ribbons? CHampionships? If not, there's no way to prove your dog is even pure bred, it is likely not.
  3. Purebred doesn't mean the dog is well-bred. Without papers, you'll never know if he's purebred anyway. Even a purebred dog can look very different from what the breed is supposed to look like, if the breeders aren't breeding to standard (as every single breeder should). I hope you didn't pay more than $50 for this pet-quality, unregistered dog.
  4. I had a Boxer growing up whose muzzle was longer than the breed standard, along with a host of other faults. She was still purebred, looked like a Boxer, but compared to a conformationally correct Boxer, she was hideous. Funny thing was, both her parents were rather good looking Boxers; sire was a show dog....she must have gotten the fugly genes from both parents :). Loved her to pieces all the same :). Plenty of purebred dogs have physical traits that deviate to some degree from the "ideal" conformation for that breed.....especially if the dog's breeder wasn't breeding with good conformation in mind. Keep in mind also that she is still young. Pups go through various growth phases...sometimes they will have huge feet out of proportion to their body, or they'll have really long legs, or they'll just go through a "puppy ugly" phase where everything just seems to be out of whack and goofy, but they gradually grow into themselves and mature into decent looking dogs. It is hard to accurately judge what a puppy's adult conformation will be. Even experienced show breeders are occasionally wrong when picking a show prospect puppy. Nice balanced conformation and a nice head in an 8 week old pup can turn into a set of glaring faults by the time the dog matures. Besides, if your dog is a pet it really doesn't matter what her nose looks like anyway :)
