Cross Breeds

Do most pitbull owners have the dogs just to make a statement or try to be "different"?

Do they own those dogs to have something to argue about like "Pitbulls are only mean because of the owners not raising them, not because they are born that way!" Even the most loved pitbulls have turned onto people. And guess what is the most abandoned dog breed? What breed do you see often in the shelters? Pitbulls. Why?

  1. because youre a fuuckhead. my aunt has2 pits and they are nicer than my dog. if you get your dog from trash expect it to be trash. any dog has the potential to be mean. how about you look at a chart of dog bites and what breeds are the most common biters. youll be surprised. just because a dog is little doesnt mean it isnt just as aggressive as any other dog. because their teeth are small they can bite and leave a tiny mark whereas a big dog leaves a big mark.
  2. Why? Because people are over breeding these dogs for all of the wrong reasons. I have a female APBT and she is lovely, gets along great with my kids, cats and all other dogs. We also have an 'English' Mastiff. I love all dogs but especially big dogs. My dogs are well trained, and we are responsible dog owners who socialized and do everything we can to give these dogs a great life. But so many people out there do not do this. These dogs are wonderful, misunderstood dogs. There are no bad dogs only bad and irresponsible owners.
  3. shut up you ignorant person, no its people like you that don't have a clue what they are talking about but think its ok to generalise an intire breed that give the bad reputation. havn't you got something better to do than troll.... i know, pick up a book, u sound like you need an education.
  4. This would be true if all pit bull owners were immature children. Actually, most of us are adults. Most of the people I know who own put bulls do so because they are very loyal, loving, intelligent dogs, with plenty of personality and energy. If other people think that my dogs are going to turn on me or some innocent person just out of nowhere, it is not my job to educate the wilfully ignorant. They can think whatever they want. Pit bulls tend to be abandoned by the ignorant people who DO want one so they can puff out their chests and talk about how they own a pit bull. Then they find out that they have an animal that needs attention and exercise and they actually have to spend time with the dog. Or maybe they wanted a mean dog that would terrorize other people, and they found out that they have a big teddy bear that just wants its tummy rubbed and to play. I volunteer at an animal shelter and it's true that there are a lot of pit bulls there. Usually I take them outside and they roll around in the grass, play with toys, and run around. It seems to me that the fact that you have to do this with your pit every day, rather than just chain him up in a backyard or basement, might be what deters some owners. If you don't like my dogs, that's OK with me. They're not yours. ADD: I would like to agree with Jezabel. You see so many pits in the shelter because they are overbred. Greedy owners breed them over and over again hoping to sell the puppies, and end up putting a lot of the litter in rescue when the buyers don't materialize. Hardly the dogs' fault, eh?
  5. Pit Bull, two words. If you're going to rant,at least be able to properly convey the subjects name ! To answer one of your misgivings...they are often found in shelters for a couple of reasons in particular. They are a high energy, high drive breed.Too much dog for the average dog owner.Once the puppy cuteness wears off and a high energy working breed is left, many don't know or are not willing to do what it takes. Secondly, they do not understand the breeds propensity for dog aggression and high prey drive.Genetic characteristics that are understood and easily managed by true breed fanciers. It all basically boils down to lack of education, obviously the same issue you are having here...
  6. you clearly dont know what your talking about. Pit bulls get a bad rap because of the owners they arnt the only dogs used to fit and not the only breed that will attack people. its how there raised not there breed. My cousins had 3 pit bulls and they were the Greatest dogs ever. Never snarled or nipped at anyone. You know why?? because they were properly taken care of
  7. unfortunately beautiful and powerful breeds can attract the wrong type of owner!! they are like you said a "statement" in these situations! However i have to agree that it is the person behind the dog rather than the dog that has problems, there are millions of balanced power breeds, just unfortunately the media represents them negatively. I dont own a powerful breed because i am smart enough to know that it would be to much of a dog for me but must say that i have only ever been bitten once and that was by a neighbors spaniel, i now own two springer spaniels
  8. I had an APBT who was AKC registered. His parents were shown and had titles. He was a lovely animal, and turned out to be a great therapy dog. He was excellent with young children and older people. If you buy CRAP you're gonna end up with CRAP. He was worth EVERY penny. I would love to raise another APBT. I can honestly say he was more well rounded and polite than my lab. Any dog can be a killing machine, it is the training or lack of.
  9. they fall into three categories: 1. tough guys/girls (typically no clue about dogs, think all pit bulls are "sweethearts" and it is "all about how they are raised") - 89 percent 2. bleeding hearts (typically no clue about dogs, felt so sorry for the poor misunderstood breed, just wants to show people the dogs are all "sweethearts") - 10 percent 3. qualified - less than 1 percent they are abandoned so often because 99 percent of the owners fall into category 1 and 2 ...
  10. "Pitbulls are only mean because of the owners not raising them, not because they are born that way!" - Only idiots who don't know the breed make that argument. Having grown up around the breed and with a breeder in the family i know its GENETICS. "And guess what is the most abandoned dog breed? What breed do you see often in the shelters? Pitbulls. Why?" Depends on where you live. Its Pits in some areas. Small breeds in others. In my area? Lab mixes, small breeds and a handful of pits. I'd own one because I know what I am doing and love the breed. I can be different all on my own(and I am) without a dog.
