Do dogs and cats think they are human?

Domesticated pets look in our mirrors and they don't recognise themselves because they are not self-aware. So, do they presume they look like us and if so what do they think when they see other dogs/cats? Can a human ever mimic a dog bark or cat meow so well that the dog/cat thinks it's getting a response? Any thoughts?

  1. i answer you question easy do you think you are a human when yes then are you wrong
  2. More likely that animals in general view humans like other animals. Powerful animals, herd bosses, but other animals. > Can a human ever mimic a dog bark or cat meow so well that the dog/cat thinks it's getting a response? I don't know if I could fool a cat, but my "meow" can get a dog I know running after an imaginary cat!
  3. I don't think they truly question who and what they are. It's hard to say though... they seem to know that we're not the same specie, as they don't try and mate with us... that's not me trying to sound creepy by the way. (although dogs can do it if they get excited... but even my female dog who is no longer a 'full' female will do that if she gets REALLY wound up... so I don't think it's the same kind of thing, if you get my draft) I know you'll think I'm mad saying this, but I do have conversations with the cats. They meow, I meow back. They don't meow again until I respond. Dogs would perhaps be harder to mimic, especially as it's not in their nature to be vocal at you unless they're threatening you.
  4. The answer is NO! Definitely NOT! Rhey are , just like humans in this respect. They are not familiar with genesis, nor revelations, they are only aware of the present. they are THE enigma to themselves. they know not what they are, but are quite content to be themselves. They like us, are real in a real world, and identify their place in this great mystery, by landmarking their needs , and emotions, and their interply. This is why dogs hate dogs, cats hate cats, humans hate humans. The similarity represents reality, and competition for survival, in a cpntinous daily grind. They do not know what we, are, they only know we represent, the security of a barrier to their needs, or comfort, within reality. This is why a dog, will fignt a bear, to protect a human. The dog, dont like the bear from the start, because the bear has always been a barrier to it's comfort and security. I have cats, one hates me, the other is afraid of me, and the one will fignt a pitbull for me. Last night a stray cat came into the house, and wandered into my bedroom while i was asleep. he jumped onto the bed, and awakened me, (i sleep with my doors open, and i am used to cats jumping on me, in the midle of the night). my neighbor's cat, toted home a bad whipping, last night. My cat damn near killed the thing. I got all this information from my cat(s).
  5. Some mangie old dogs think they are human, but they are just savage beasts without a conscience.
  6. no.
  7. Cats & dogs know that they are cats and dogs and that we are humans. However, some of them are willing to make allowance for our deficiencies. As far as mimicking a cat or dog, it's easy.. I had an afghan who would also respond to wolf calls and to sirens. A cat & her kittens were in an alley when they were cornered by a huge dog. The cat put herself between dog and kittens, puffed herself up and hissed. The dog kept coming on. Suddenly, the cat barked and growled at the dog, which turned tail and ran. The cat turned to her kittens and said, "You see why I told you that it is good to study a foreign language?"
