Are people who are allergic to dogs and cats also allergic to pet birds?

1. I'm really allergic to cats, but not dogs or birds. I think it's the cat's fur that doesn't agree with me. I still love cats though, even if i feel like I'm coughing up furballs and feel like I have sandpaper in my eyes for days after being around one!
2. No, people who are allergic to cats or dogs are allergic to the proteins in the dander. I'm allergic to cats but not to dogs because the have different proteins. A bird would also have a different protein, but another common allergy is feathers. (I'm allergic to feathers) It all depends on the type of proteins the person is allergic to.
