Cross Breeds

I have 2 Maine coon cats 1 male 1 female and she is heavier than the male. HOW?

I have 2 Maine coon cats 1 male 1 female same height same length but my female weighs a good 5 to 6 lbs heavier than my male. How is this possible. They are not related. both are hyper active the male more so.

  1. Genetics? The female more likely than not had larger parents than the male. There's no universal set rule for a cat and its size... And you said it yourself: They're not related.
  2. Well, maybe the male burns off his calories by being hyper :P. Also, maybe she is eating a bit more? Maybe stealing some food from the kitchen or from her friend's cat food bowl?
  3. You need to ad more info..Is she spayed?
  4. "Maine Coons" because you got them from a TICA, CFA or ACFA breeder and have pedigrees to prove their breed or "Maine Coons" because you're ASSUMING that's what they are? If it's the latter they're most likely NOT Maine Coons and domestics - cats of no particular breed - come in all shapes and sizes. If they are pedigreed it could just be the male came from a bad breeder or he was the runt of the litter.
  5. If they are purebreds, it would depend on the genetics. Not all males are 16+ lbs - you have smaller males. And if they are not over 4 yrs old, they are not done growing. I've seen some larger females lately in the show ring that if you didn't know they were females (patched tabbies/calicos) then you would suspect them to be boys.
