How much do Miniature horses eat per day (in pounds)?
I kinda want a Mini (I have some experience with horses), but how much food do they need every day?

- Most Mini's are overfed. It's hard to feed them as little as they need when they want so much more. a Mini should be maintained on a drylot in most cases (unless the grazing is extremely poor) My 31 inch mini gets half a flake of hay am and half a flake pm. He gets a cup of Strategy. If he were the only one eating the Strategy, I have to throw away half the bag as it lasts 4 months, and it just doesn't look as good after 2 months. I don't know how much that is in pounds, but very little. They still need to see the farrier every 6-8 weeks, have all the shots that big horses do. Feed is not what costs for these guys, it's the upkeep
- The man that owns the reining stud farm I work at also owns 2 mini farms. Not dwarfs or over bred funky minis, but high class show minis. Typically they just need around 2 flakes of GOOD hay a day. In the winter he gives them like 1/5 a scoop of grain. They can get fat just on grass in summer. Its important to watch their weight and stick to the same rule with every horse, about 1.5% their body weight a day in forage. Grain really isn't needed for minis just make sure their hay has the nutrients they need.
