Cross Breeds

What do you think about keeping pitbull type dogs?

Would you trust one? Do you think they are a safe animal to keep as a pet if the dog is treated well.

  1. I saw a video on ogrish back in 2003 of a putbull in some third world s#$% hole attacking and tearing the face off a child, after that i decided that people who own or consider buying one of these dogs are either dimwits or social anarchists with no regard for other people.
  2. See this is an obvious stereotype Pit bulls are NOT agressive the only resons if you've seen an agressive pitbull is because it was abused or used in dog fights I sincerly think having a pitbull is not bad but some state districts ban from having them or even mixes.
  3. pitbulls can be wonderful pets even around children if in the hands of good owners and good breeding meaning non aggressive parents
  4. If they have researched the Breed and train the dog just like with any breed of dog then there is not a problem i know a now 15 year old one and he is safe as anything but they are a breed that needs to be Researched
  5. no i do not trust them and no i do not think they are a safe animal to keep as a pet ... i think all bully breeds should be eradicated ... a dog is a pet not a weapon ...
  6. yes they are safe if treated well. my parents had one before i was born and he was fine around me as a small child. we only gave him to someone else cuz it was better for him. long story but dad passed away mom didnt have much time for walks and we lived in an apartment so he went to someone we knew who had land up north. ill be getting another dog in tye next couple years and if theres any pit or pit mixes in the shelter i will prolly get it
  7. Would you trust one? - No I wouldn't trust any dog. Dogs are animals, not humans, and can't be trusted in the same way as a human can. They will act on instinct, and often very unpredictably. I wouldn't, however, trust an APBT any less than a Lab. A friend who works in a dog rescue kennels was very viciously attacked by a Border Collie, sustaining serious injuries. Strangely, it didn't make the local news. If it had been a Pit, I think there's a good chance that it would have Do you think that they are a safe animal to keep as a pet if the dog is treated well? - Again, I wouldn't call any dog (or any animal) "safe". Not even a hamster... did you know that an elderly lady was killed by a hamster a couple of years ago in Norwich? Anyway... I think you're asking if they're as safe as other breeds. Yes and no. APBTs are a very popular breed, and as such, they are being bred very recklessly, with no consideration to temperament. If bought from the guy down the street breeding his two crappy Pits, then no - I don't think they'd be terribly "safe". If bought from a reputable person who knows that they should be breeding a dog who has specific temperament then yes... I'd feel perfectly safe around them. They are not a "beginner breed", and treating them "well" is not the same as treating them properly, and creating a sound, safe dog. They require a specific type of owner. Yes, they can be given affection, but that is not enough. They also need a very strong, consistent handles, who will never be scared of the dog or ignore bad behaviour. They don't need someone who is too soft and will not deliver a correction if needed. APBTs are often dog aggressive, but when genetically sound, and handled by someone who knows the breed, they should NOT be human aggressive.
  8. i think that there is no bad dogs just bad owners
  9. I stand by "It's the owner, not the breed". A labrador could maul somebody if they are brought up bad.
  10. No more and no less than any other breed of dog that I had met my standards beforehand. They needed to be treated well, but also properly trained, socialized and exercised of course. It also depends on where you get the dog. For instance, don't be surprised if your dog turns on you when you buy him/her from a breeder who claims to have the most aggressive dogs in the area.
