Cheapest place to declaw a cat in Austin, TX?

Which vet in Austin has the best price to declaw a cat? My sister had her cat declawed for $75 in Fort Worth, but every place I've called so far in Austin has been way higher. The cheapest so far has been $190

  1. which one does laser declaw...pick that one. both prices sound reasonable, but price shouldn't be the only consideration. make sure they keep the cat overnight, at least, for observation. and make sure it is done by laser, or you could have a whole host of problems on your hands!
  2. I don't think declawing is a good idea, there's a good reason why it is not legal in most developed countries, and there's no guarantee your cat won't be one of the unlucky ones who has medical or behaviour problems from it. But if you are intent on having your cats toes amputated at the last joint, I definitely would not choose a vet based just on cost. maybe your sister's cat got lucky, but choosing a vet who cuts corners so they can do it cheap and still make a profit could mean some potential problems, it could even end up requiring repeated expensive surgeries by a better vet to repair the damage. Find out which one uses a laser and find out in detail what they do for pain relief during and after the operation. This is one of the most painful surgeries there is. Please do a lot more research about what the surgery entails so you will be better informed. Here is what one vet clinic explains about their protocol for this. (Note that they do recommend trying other things first which is what the AVMA says vets should do instead of just push this surgery ) http://www.cathospitalofchicago.com/library/declaw_in_cats.html Also here is a site from a vet with some tips about cat scratching solutions http://www.catscratching.com/ and more details about what is involved in declawing , how the surgery is done and potential complications http://www.declawing.com/htmls/declawing.htm
