How do I keep my dogs feet protected in the Snow?

I have a Bichon Frise, and I dont see booties staying on his feet. I just had him outside for 5 mins and when i let him back in he was lifting a pay and whining. How do i protect his pads?

  1. put socks on him, itll work!
  2. Put some petroleum jelly on his pads, it'll help protect his paws and keep them a little dryer
  3. Ah--it's pretty hard to find booties for ANY dog that will stay on. Just don't leave him out very long. Keep the fur/hair between his toes AND pads clipped very very short so he doesn't get ice forming between the pads. I wish I could come up with booties for my dog. Maybe try asking some dog sled people.
  4. Try to walk on the pavement. Not much else will work. Otherwise, just don't take him out too much. It's cold. He's a little dog, he'll be fine staying indoors most of the day.
  5. Musher's Secret. It's a wax that you put on the pads and it helps to protect them from the elements and salt and that.
  6. I use Ruffwear boots, for the typical snow walks they stay on- I plan on picking up Tammy and Teddys boots which are custom built and guaranteed to fit. You can also check out Pawz disposable boots, I used them to condition my dogs to wearing boots, they even stayed on my eskie's "peg legs" which other boots had issues with, my only issue with them was continuing to buy them rather than just a 1 time purchase. There is also a paste called Musher's Secret that you can check out, I've never used it before and I'm pretty sure that it won't protect against sharp ice, chemicals or the salts used.
