Why do some vegetarians make their cats and dogs give up meat as well?

I seen have it done and the animal alway looks tired and unhealthy. But dogs are omnivores they need meat. I believe it's cruel to feed your pet an unbalanced diet. I heard they feed them soy based food that they don't tolerate well.

5. I can only assume that they have some kind of compulsive need for control. So much so that they would force even their pets live by their standards. Nobody with any sense would put an obligate carnivore on such an unnatural diet. It's selfish and abusive, people like that should not own animals at all.

7. They like forcing their beliefs on others. Kind of like parents who force their children to be vegetarians, or force their kids to play in sports/beauty pageants the child has no interest in.

I think it's because the meat processed in most if not all dog foods are from factory farmed animals, ones who didnt really experience life I'm vegetarian but i think if a someone/thing is able to look that animal in the eyes, and then still hunt it, I suppose its ok, I mean dogs in the wild have no problem, so I let my dog eat meat cuz I know he wouldnt feel bad for doing it. yes dogs are omnivores, so are people. dogs CAN survive without meat just like humans if fed the right things cats are more carnivores and its not healthy to feed a vegetarian diet @GSD I agree with most hunters like that. I live up north where there are tons of hunters, and its normally very humane cuz all those deer and moose and everything lived a free life and most hunters are thoughtful. 10. They think just because there vegetarians,then there dogs should be too,but what they dont understand is dogs and cats need meat to be healthy.
11. If they don't get meat they don't Iron and protein. Do they even make wet dog food that doesn't have meat in it? Because that is not healthy for a dog to just have dry food and water. And for people who force there dogs not to eat meat there stupid. DOGS DONT WANT THAT!

Even animal lovers that hate to see animals suffer know wild carnivores have to eat meat and for them to do that they have to kill other animals, stupid vegetarians don't understand that if the world was without wolves, big cats, bears, and even hunters there would be an overpopulation of animals... I hunt Columbian black tail deer, people pick on hunters and then go buy meat from the store when hunters are way more humane the factories which provide meat at stores, do some research, those animals are basically tortured their whole lives then killed and sold to stores... Dogs are omnivores, 80% of their diet should be meat (like a wolf, only 80% of their diet is meat), but it is a totally different thing with cats, cats are all meat, they are carnivores... People also need meat, but some people eat way too much meat and not enough veggies... @uknowitstrue - You sound very understanding for a dogs needs, you sound very open minded too... I hunt deer, and hunters are very humane, all of the hunters I have met feel very bad when an animal suffers so they try to make a clean shot, all the others are just stupid and don't care that a living thing is suffering because they didn't make a good shot... I hate watching hunting shows because they are so cruel, they don't even care about the animals, all they care about is the trophy, they probably don't even eat the meat... Hunters aren't like in the movies...

"i dont eat meat so neither should he/she" as you said not all do it some people lack common sense while a good vegetarian knows a dog needs a balanced meal that doesnt cut out a major part of their diet. ADD: i do remember one Q from a vegetarian that believed it was wrong to force her dog to eat meat by only presenting him foods with meat in it...but she couldnt get the dog to eat veggies & was asking for ideas because she didnt want the dog to starve but didnt want him to be a "cannibal" not sure how eating a dead bird or cow is cannibalism but then to each there own
14. Carnivores actually. Opportunistic ones but carnivores. Anyways its really a need for control and a complete and utter refusal to ignore the natural order. Honestly militant vegans have no respect for anyone who isn't just like them. When they can't convert those around them they take the next best route which is to push their moral worldview on their pets. If they don't want to have a pet that eats meat they honestly need to find different pets to own. puppylove: Actually there is meat free kibble. It was originally developed for dogs who are allergic to meat based protein. Some also home cook their dog's food.
15. I've never heard of anyone doing this. What are they feeding them then exactly? It's not like you can buy 'meat free' dogfood. And the only other alternative to dog food is a raw meat diet. (As far as I'm aware) What else do they give them? That cannot be healthy.
