Mexico, use to have a great thoroughbred horse race patronised by the Hollywood elite.?

Now it is discontined. I remember reading about our champion from down under Phar Lap winning that race. What'is the most popular Group 1 horse race in Mexico and why is it so popular. I have asked this question in the horse racing section but no luck. Now I would like to know if there are any fan's of boxing who love horse racing could they supply an answer.

I don't know if Mexico is breeding thoroughbred horses but I admired the breed that it produce in cock fighting. Puerto Rico produces the best rooster for cock fighting too. I am a cock fighting aficionado but not much on horse racing although I go to the race track once on a while and have seen great Mexican Jockey.
