What happens to stray Dogs & cats during the a Snow storm?

Right now in New york we are facing a HUGE snow storm. Im just wondering what happens to all the cats & dogs with no homes that are out there? Do they die!? :[ If i where to go out to rescue some where should I look? Pleas help. I just took my small dog out to let him pee & he nearly froze to death just by staying out there for a moment. Its racking at my imagination as to what is happening to the ones that have ben out there for HOURS.

1. A lot of them find shelter under cars, in sheds, garages, etc. Some do die. Unfortunately there's no "Valley of Strays" to just wander over to go and find one or two to rescue. Your big heart is appreciated, though, and maybe you should instead consider donating or rescuing from an actual local rescue organization so that they can continue to save the animals they find every day!
