Why is that some dogs love to eat snow while some dogs won't eat snow?

Is it a genetic thing? What is it? My one year old pug loves to eat snow but all it is is water. Is there a way to stop my pug from eating snow? I'd imagine it'd be hard to police a dog to stop.

1. Why is it that some people love broccoli and others hate it? Living creatures have different likes and dislikes, and there's really not a good explanation for why. Your Pug likes the taste or texture of it. There really is no harm in him eating clean snow, and no reason to stop it. If you want him to stop and focus on something else (for example, you are walking him), you should employ a basic "leave it" command.
