Cross Breeds

How much do purebred German shepherd puppies usually sell for?

  1. Depends on the breeder. Go to a responsible breeder & you will pay more but the outcome will be far more valuable than if you go to a breeder who breeds indiscriminately & without doing the proper health tests. Also depends what you want out of the dog. Do you want it for working purposes or just as a pet?...Personally the GSD is a breed that needs a job other than the pet title.
  2. I've seen them for around $500 in MI in the paper. From a reputable breeder, however, they can be much more. I found mine as a stray and she's awesome and beautiful. Consider adoption as you can choose a dog with the personality and looks that you want. Puppies can grow up to be all sorts of temperaments and looks. A lot of personality can be genetic and more difficult to train and even if the parents seem great the puppies may not be the same and/or you may not see the adult in all settings. And people will lie to sell dogs. Unfortunately. But best wishes to you either way:)
  3. Ask the petstore you plan on selling them to. That's clearly the only place that would buy BYB-quality puppies in hopes of making a profit.
  4. I found 4 ads for German Shepherd puppies, with shots, papers ect...the one ad cost $450.00 the other $500.00,I think if I were getting a GSD I would spend around $500.00 and you can get a good one thats purebreed.I LOVE German Shepherds!
  5. Depends on whether or not you buy from a reputable breeder or not. Even if you do buy from a reputable breeder it some charge based on male or female and some based on quality of the pup. Pups closer to breed standard will may cost more than one that pet quality. In the local papers and online in my state they range anywhere from $150(shelter or rescue) to $1500. If yo run across one that has a really good pedigree you would pay more.
  6. It all depends on where you are and what you are looking for. You can spend anywhere from $50-$5000 or more. You can always find "purebred" GSDs from $50-$300. That is an unregistered dog they claim is purebred from unproven parents with no health clearances from questionable breeding. From anywhere from $300-$1000 you can get a registered purebred from unproven parents with no health clearances and possibly questionable breeding. Well bred pet quality dogs start at around $1000-$2000. That is a registered purebred out of proven parents with proper health clearances for diseases like hip dysplasia. From there the price goes up for breeding quality, sport dogs, working dogs what have you. Remember, price does not dictate quality, but if you are paying less than average, chances are there were shortcuts taken. Some people do charge the same as good breeders but are not producing the same quality dog. Also, purebred or registration is not an indication of quality. You can have registered purebreds that are a terrible example of the breed. Consider carefully that temperament IS hereditary. There are a lot of bad examples of the breed temperament wise and this is a powerful breed. Health can also depend a lot on genetics. Investing in a well bred dog can save you money and problems in the future. Here are some good articles on finding a GSD. http://www.wildhauskennels.com/articles.htm
