How do you find puppies for sale without going through a breeder?
I really want to get a puppy but I don't know where to look for them. Every time I do a search only breeders come up and I don't want a show dog, just a pet.

- Craigslist!
- If you're looking for a pet, get a shelter dog.
- if you want "just a pet" then check the shelters..there's all kinds of dogs and pups needing homes...
- go to your local humane society if you are in USA.. they almost always have puppies.. and older already house trained dogs too.. there is nothing wrong with them since they are they ppl just tend to think of thier pets as expendable inconviences
- Good breeders have dogs suitale for pets. I got my dog from a show breeder, but he is pet quality. Unless you adopt, you don't want to buy a puppy from someone other than a reputable breeder, otherwise you are running the risk of puppy mill puppies/BYB's.
- "Just a pet"- go to a shelter.
- A dog from a breeder doesn't equal a show dog. Most breeders nowadays sell pet quality dogs as well as show quality. Puppies don't grow on trees, so if you BUY one, it's going to be from a breeder :P Or you could always adopt one, check out petfinder.com
- EVERY puppy comes from a breeder, they're not created in factories. There's no reason not to go to a good breeder just because you're not looking for a show dog. There are always pet quality pups in a litter, and you get the benefit of good breeding practices for the same price that many BYBs charge, and much less than pet stores. If you have a specific breed in mind, you can also try breed specific rescues, or shelters if you just want a pupy
- You should ONLY buy puppies from a breeder and ONLY if you are 100% prepared for a puppy. If you buy from someone who is not a AKC recognized breeder you run the risk of getting a puppy mill puppy which tortures their animals and forces them to breed constantly. This will lead to long term health problems for your dog which could lead to early death or huge veterinary bills. The morale and financial implications should sway you easily away from non- AKC recognized breeder instantly! Be honest with yourself do you really have the time and energy to raise and train a puppy affectively? If not there are thousands of dogs available for less than the cost of a purebred at your local animal shelter that you can give a home. And I guarentee you that any dog you adopt will love you as much if not more than a dog you've had since puppyhood. Some times Shelters will have foster programs that will put you on a waiting list for the next available puppy they receive.
- The shelter. Or you can look in the newspaper.Lots of people are giving their dogs away because they're moving, having a baby, etc.
- Petfinder has thousands of beautiful loving & homeless puppies and dogs. You can also try your local rescues and animal control shelters, but get ready to shell out some funds for health care if you go to a shelter. Check it out:
- Outside your local walmart :)
- hey that's very easy, just go to your local ASPCA or animal shelter. They usually screen the dogs to make sure they are healthy and suitable for adoption
- go to petfinder.com i found my puppy there online you can do a search on petfinder for any type of dog you want or if it doesn't matter just search on petfinder for dogs you can also search on petfinder the distance your willing to travel and if you want a baby , young, adult or senior. the best part about petfinder.com is that they are shelter dogs and you will be saving a life
- kijiji.com Thats where I just got my puppy a few days ago.
- show breeders have pet quality dogs in every litter. They are also mostly responsible breeders in that they tend to do the genetic screenings for the breed, carefully plan litters, and care about the overall temperament of their pups. If you are looking for a specific breed, I highly recommend a show breeder. If you are not particular about breed, check www.petfinder.com for puppies in shelters and rescues in your area.
