Why do people think it is gross to eat dogs and cats?

We eat cows, pigs, deer, snakes, birds, fish, lions, squirrels, rabbits and more animals. What is so gross about eating a dog or a cat? Is it because people just see them as house pets? Meat is meat right? Joe I don't understand your comment

1. Baby, the other white mean? Are we still on the same subject? (edit) im critisizing your question, should we eat cats and dogs? Why not go head and try to eat other stuff while were at it. Heck in Africa people eat Dirt in China dogs cats heck in japan the husband sometimes eats the Fetus bag after the first child is bourn. So yhe, If cat is the other white meat Baby the other white meat?
2. It is because of the cultures that each country has developed. In the United States, yes, we have pets that are dogs and cats, making it absolutely repulsing to think of the fact that they are being eaten in other parts of the world. However, in countries like China where it is perfectly acceptable to dine on cats and dogs, they see a grilled cheese as equally as disgusting to our view of them consuming these poor animals. Hope this helps and yes it is a sad issue!
3. Beef,pork,chickens,ducks and yes even rabbits and so forth are raised for humans to eat, Dogs, cats, and other such animals are raised to be companions of humans. We are almost into 2011 and for the most part are not barbarians any more, and we don't need to eat any thing and every thing that comes along to survive. I am sorry but I would no more eat my dog then I would eat any other dog or cat if hungry.

5. I agree that it's a culture thing. In England we certainly don't eat most of the animals you've listed. We have sheep, cows, pigs and poultry. These animals are raised for their purpose (to feed us) far from the public eye so that when your steak arrives on your plate the image of an adorable calf licking it's own nose couldn't be further from your mind. People feel guilty about eating animals because they're so cute and people dependent and I think this is a lot more obvious with dogs/ cats because almost everyone has one in their life that they care about, whereas people don't commonly become emotionally attached to sheep etc.

7. I think it's gross. I would never eat my kitties or dogs! But I have to kinda agree with you. If we eat cows, pigs, deer, etc. why do people think it's gross to eat other kinds of animals?? I eat squids, octopus, all kinds of fish & my foreign friends think it's gross. But personally I would never eat my pets.
