Why do some animals make funny faces to intimidate others?

Like making faces that allows them to expose their teeth and such like dogs and cats do? Don't those animals know that some humans can easily "blast" them with a gun if they attempt to make funny faces like that? Same goes for the birds who expand their wings to appear bigger but actually are OBVIOUSLY not.

2. For many species, exposing one's teeth is a threat, and rightly so. Those teeth are efficient weapons. No, they do not know that humans can "blast" them with a gun. Those behaviors evolved long before guns came into existence. A bird with its wings expanded looks larger than the same bird with its wings closed. That's the point.
