  2. Boxers are a bright, energetic and playful breed and tend to be very good with children. They are active and incredibly strong dogs and require adequate exercise to prevent boredom-associated behaviors such as chewing, digging, or licking. Boxers have earned a slight reputation of being "headstrong," which can be related to inappropriate obedience training. Owing to their intelligence and working breed characteristics, training based on corrections often has limited usefulness. Boxers, like other animals, typically respond better to positive reinforcement techniques such as clicker training, an approach based on operant conditioning and behaviorism, which affords the dog an opportunity to think independently and to problem-solve.[10][11] Because of their resistance to repetitive and punishment-based training, Stanley Coren's survey of obedience trainers, summarized in his book, The Intelligence of Dogs, ranked Boxers at #48 - average working/obedience intelligence. Many who have actually worked with Boxers disagree quite strongly with Coren's survey results, and maintain that a skilled trainer who utilizes reward-based methods will find Boxers have far above-average intelligence and working ability.[10][11][12] The Boxer by nature is not an aggressive or vicious breed, but, when provoked is a formidable guardian of any family or home and like all dogs, requires socialization.[13] Boxers are generally patient with smaller dogs and puppies, but issues with larger adult dogs, especially those of the same sex, may occur. More severe fighting can also occur among female boxers.[14] Boxers are generally more comfortable with companionship, in either human or canine form.
  3. We have a boxer/american bull dog mix. She is almost 2 and I'll tell you what it's like she's still 8 months old! She's very full of energy and love. She'll play frizbee till you are tired of throwing it, she'll go on walks for as long as you want (provided her sister come with us). I think any dog is great if it's raise right. If you give them the unconditional love they give you, you'll have a great dog on your hands. Congrats on the new puppy :)
  4. Oh man, they are NUTS! So hyper. Honestly, I like Boxers, but don't think I could ever own one. They're way too spinney for me! They're nice dogs, every one I have ever met has been very sweet. Just give em lots of exercise, training and socialization and you'll have a great dog. Not too much exercise when they're young, as large breed dogs need to take it easy when they're bones are still growing. But when the dog is older, I'd say lots of bike rides!
  5. They are very energetic and can be hard to train because they are sometimes independent. They are a wonderful breed1
  6. yes, it is really heaps, and it stays that way for years. as a puppy, less exercise will tire them out but s/he will require it more frequently. the amount of exercise needed before a boxer gets tired will vary dog to dog but plan on at least an hour of solid (read: running at the park or other strenuous exercise) before the dog tires. they are very intelligent so make sure you have toys around that are interactive and can be stuffed with food or treats. and definitely enroll in training classes because an untrained (and under socialized) boxer can become dog aggressive as an adult! congratulations and good luck!
  7. I have had my boxer for 2 awesome years now and she is the sweetest girl ever. Boxers needs plenty of physical and mental exercise on a daily basis. They should be allowed to run or go for long walks regularly. Boxers enjoy playing fetch or other activities. Lonely and inactive Boxers can become stressed out and destructive. Boxers are happy, friendly, intelligent, attentive, and loyal. Now keep in mind they have lots of energy and a serious demeanor, and they can be clownish and playful as well. They love to grab and carry around just about anything they can in their mouths you need to keep an eye on your things if you don't want to get it chewed up. Boxers tend to get rowdy when the food bowl is empty. You will need to train your boxer not to jump up at people as it is naturally fond of jumping. Boxers are great at doing various sporting activities because it can be highly trained and learns very quickly. Boxers may be stubborn in learning, but they are responsive to commands. Now Boxer’s coat can be kept in good condition by brushing occasionally to remove dead hair. Boxers requires frequent human companionship, and do not like excessively hot or cold weather and are they are not the kind of dogs that need to be left outside. Now be warned they may snore, drool or have flatulence. At 1/3 of white boxer puppies will be deaf. You also need to remember to get them in to Training class as early as you can while they are still puppies.
