Where can i take the dogs to the snow in So-Cal?

Hello, where can i take our dogs to the snow for the first time?!? we have a 2 yr old doberman and a 7 yr old pug, both of them are still young at heart and we would love for them to experience the snow! We live in Riverside and travel to San Diego on a weekly basis more or less, so all of us can travel. I know theres Big Bear, Mt. Julian etc....Id like to hear some of your fun experiences!!!...im really excited for this. Any recommendations on what to bring, what to expect etc etc! THANKS! it wouldnt hurt if there was an area nearby that i could possibly go tubing down a hill !!!!

  1. I remember driving my Siberian Husky up to Frazier Park so he could be in snow back in the 80's. That is a nice easy drive, no windy mountain roads, up the I5 just outside of Los Angeles and heading up the grapevine to Bakersfield. That was my only my second time being in snow and it was the last time I was in the snow. I would have never dreamt to take my Dobermans to such foul weather, even with their jackets on.
  2. Idyllwild is an easy trip, and a dog-friendly town with lots of shops, similar to Julian. Its lower than Big Bear, though....about 5000 ft, so you need to check the snow level. Ive been to Idyllwild in the snow on a sledding expedition, although I grew up in snow, so I dont usually bother to visit it. :o) My old Papillon mix had a warm jacket for our trips to the mountains. I would imagine your dogs would need jackets, too.
