Do dogs and cats have periods?

Let's say my cat seems weird and feisty. Could she be having a period?

  1. I don't know about cats.. but dogs do. All my friends with female dogs have to put a little diaper on it when they start to menstruate .. :\
  2. yep
  3. yes they do. Usually a cat in heat is extremelly annoying with lots of yowling and archin their butts up.
  4. well i know cats go into heat ...
  5. all mammals do
  6. yes its called HEAT and last up to 14 days, yes they bleed from the vagina. Both dogs & cats experience this unless they are desexed, if they are desexed they do not experience Heat/Season. Be very careful to not let any male cats near her, the smell of HEAT to male dogs/cats is amazing, and they will jump fences, dig under fences to get to her, male cats are known to brake out of houses to find a female to"root" and if she is outdoors at all you will find stray cats hanging around or following her, she will get pregnant if kept outside whilst on heat-
  7. yes
  8. Yes. Its called going into heat. Spay & Neuter
  9. Dogs do have a menstrual cycle. Cats, however, do not.
  10. Cats do not have periods, they do not bleed at all. They have what you would call a heat cycle, this is a time when a cat wants to mate. She will call and meow and make all kinds of sounds, she can spray as a male does to mark where she has been. This can or will go on for about a week or so and then stop. It will start up again as soon as a week or so. Cats should never bleed when in a heat cycle. IF your cat does then it needs to go to the vet ASAP! Not All mammals bleed when they mature enough for mating. Some need to read up on their Feline Husbandry. LOL! R P CAT
  11. Periods are bleeding. Cats do not have them, dogs do. Only primates and canines go through a period.
