Cross Breeds

What are all the breeds mixed into an Alaskan Husky?

I have a female Alaskan Husky / Siberian Husky that looks exactly like a German Shepherd, and acts as protective as one. Just curious. I have done a lot of research, but haven't actually found what breeds are all mixed into an Alaskan. Thank You. I read somewhere that they are not AKC, but they do have a breed name, Alaskan Ameridian Husky. Anything on that?

  1. It varies. All an Alaskan husky really is a husky mix made for work-this could mean any number of breeds. Most commonly, it's siberian/malamute or siberian/German shorthaired pointer. The breed name is just to characterize a mixed breed sled dog. It's not registered with anything.
  2. MUTTS are UNPREDICTABLE it varies
  3. There is no set breeds mixed into an Alaskan Husky, although I do believe most have Siberian Husky and/or GSD in them.
  4. these are the dogs that have been dominant in sled dog racing in recent years. They usually have Siberian Husky, some german Shepard's, greyhound, and a host of other breeds. The Siberian is for weather stamina as well as endurance, the greyhound is for speed, gsd's are for bulk. But they are mutts.
  5. The Alaskan Husky is not a breed. Alaskan Huskies are used for dog sledding and are a mix of a lot of breeds. Each dog musher's Alaskan Husky is of a different breed composition. Usually, however, Alaskan Huskies are a mix of traditional Northern sledding breeds (Siberian Husky, Alaskan Malamute, Samoyed, etc.) and sighthounds (Saluki, Greyhound, Whipet) The Northern breeds provide a warm dense coat and strength, while the sighthounds provide speed. German Shepherds are a breed that could possibly be added to an Alaskan Husky line, so if your dog looks like a GSD then perhaps she has some in her.
  6. The Alaskan husky is not an AKC recognized breed. It is however a well established type of dog, bred for performance. To get an Alaskan Husky you would breed an Alaskan husky to another Alaskan husky. It is not a random mix of northern type dogs. And just by deciding your going to breed dogs to pull a sled does not mean your breeding Alaskan huskies. http://news.sciencemag.org/sciencenow/2010/07/sled-dogs-a-breed-of-their-own.html http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/07/100721194758.htm
