Cross Breeds

What are all the different types of dogs that can breed with wolves?

like for example can a dalmation breed with a wolfe, cuz that would be pretty cool.

  1. Theoretically any dog could but none would be "cool" just plain stupid
  2. Any breed of dog has the potential to be able to breed with a wolf, but whether it should is another story.
  3. No, it wouldn't be cool at all, it would be tragic. A wolf is a wild animal, meant to roam free - a dog is a companion animal. What you get is a wolf that's unafraid of humans --- very bad combination. To answer your question - ANY dog could breed with a wolf, just a matter of logistics (how does a chihuahua get up/down there). The species are close enough to interbreed, and tragically do because a lot of "in the wild" wanna bes think it's "cool" to have a part wolf for a pet. They make lousy pets, never lose their wildness, and usually end up euthanized when the idiot owner can't deal with them and the wolf dog hurts someone.
  4. Dogs are domesticated wolves, they can breed with any wild wolf or coyote for that matter and produce viable offspring. However it isn't "cool" though, wolves are different than dogs behaviour wise.. dogs are wolves that have been living with humans for 100,000 years they have adapted to us, and we have bred them carefully to remove many of their wilder and less desirable traits. Wild wolves on the other hand still retain their wild instincts and behaviours and they are NOT suited for human companionship in the same ways that dogs are. Wolves are bigger, stronger, smarter and more prey driven than dogs, they mature much more than dogs do and gain an independence and wildness that dogs have had bred out of them. You can't keep a wolf as a "pet" nor is it advisable to do so, they are meant to be in the wild. A full grown wolf will not take physical punishment from a human, you can't spank a wolf or rub it's nose in poop (not that you should do that to a dog either) because it will not take it. Wolves are not dogs, they are different.. they are wild and no matter how many stories you hear about "so and so who had a wolf and it was friendly" it's crap. Real people who work with real wolves and wolf/dog hybrids will tell you they are not pets, and it's not "cool" to breed them as pets.
  5. Having worked with people who run a wolf hybrid rescue shelter, NO dogs should be bred with wolves. Especially not because you think it wound be "cool".
  6. Technically even a yorkie could crossbreed with a wolf. The logistics of it are a possible problem, but when it comes to DNA, any domesticated dog breed could, in theory be crossbred with a wolf. Is is a good idea? No...it is a BAD, BAD idea. As others have already said, wolves are wild animals and mixing a domesticated dog for one generation is not going to breed that out of them. A dalmation/wolf cross would not be cool. There is no way of knowing what it would even look like. Genetics are luck of the draw. You never know what you end up with. It could look 100% wolf and show none of the dalmation traits. It would, however, be an accident waiting to happen.
