Is it possible to be allergic to certain types of dogs?

There are times when I am allergic to dogs.My eyes get itchy and watery and I start sneezing like crazy whenever I get near my brother's pitbulls.I have never been allergic to them before;it just happened all of a sudden.Is this even possible or is it just certain dogs.Thanks in advance(: Thanx these answers are really helpful.I was almost starting to worry:D

1. yeah absolutely! you must be allergic to the dog dander. some dogs produce more than others, especially the ones who shed are the worst. my little brother is allergic to dogs, but we didnt find out till we visited a friend who had a golden retriever. we have a maltese and they dont shed at all so we had no idea he was allergic
2. To the hair and dander oh yeaa. I no longer have pets because my allergies got worse and wrose over the years to cats and dogs!
