trying to sell a colt: muscle build on colt and horses?

ok so i have two colts im trying to sell: Blazin' Dice- weanling full mustang colt- fully registrable papers everything. he was born first. he is a bay with a black stripe down his back but everyone says he still counts only as a bay and not as a buckskin or dun. hes very calm, like unbelievable calm in the middle of chaos! perfect little boy! minds the fence and everything. even partially halter broke. 500$ firm (older half brother went for this price) Problems: he looks very petite and very non muscled and his coat is every other color due to shedding and re growing winter coats so essentially hes ugly.... Dante: everything someone doesn't want! half bred QH x Mustang sorrel with a little white diamond on his forehead. very wild like and jumpy, doesn't mind the fences and either hes curious or not at all concerned and runs around with his head in the air. very high strung. very muscled and taller then his older brother. but mares are the same height and father is the same? hes 400$ because i don't want any more broken fences (i use electric tape) problems: super high strung and hard to work with... also he ruined his mother, she was kid safe and now she thinks he is her king literally! so now shes for sale as well! when shes not with him, she tries to kill you and he isn't even calling her! what to do to help the chances of the 1st colt being sold and what to make the second more pleasing? also any cure for the mare? is she just that dumb? she is super independent was QUEEN B. now is a follower of her colt only. ill ad pictures in details! DICE: http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt298/momochick23/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo0042.jpg thats his mother by the way. interesting color huh? http://i621.photobucket.com/albums/tt298/momochick23/Mobile%20Uploads/Photo0027.jpg sorry my camera wont upload the new pictures. if you want to check back i might be able to get them up but here are these for now. dice is like a dark brown with black splotches now =( the pictures of after it rained we feed quality round bales, though you cant see them. also DANTE is HUGE NOW! hes gorgeous in muscle. cant separate the mother and summer is super big still, twist the skinny on is being fed cracked corn daily im not sure what her problem is but shes a blm, rescue mustang and terrified of human beings can barely touch her, explains no halter... also dantes picture is of the day after he was born while dice is about 2 months old in that picture. thanks!!! well everyone including top breeding farms wean 3-5months and separate soon after. the colt i sold was 4 months old and hes doing just fine, his mom is not the same as she was she acts like shes pregnant, fat and lazy... cant do anything with her any more. im worried this will happen to summer (dante's mom) as well. so as for now she is for sale and if no one buys her no skin off my back. but hopefully these colts get sold! i was called on the day dice was born, BLM backs me the whole way, and i got a full clear to have her. shes a super hard keeper!!!

  1. 1. Dice's mother is too thin. 2. Don't worry about their coat colors--babies shed out and can look really ugly for a while when they're shedding. They can look all blotchy--it'll shed/even out eventually. 3. She's having a fit when she isn't with him because she's being a good mother. She's upset because she can't find her baby. She's not being badly behaved. 4. Honestly, you should try working with problem child Dante more. He's not doing it to be bad--he's a baby. He just doesn't know any better.
  2. This is a touch time of year to sell a horse, especially a young one. If possible feed them through the winter and sell them in the spring. You could try clipping but then you have to keep them inside and blanketed all winter which can be a hassle. I think your mare will probably return to normal once the colt is gone. She sounds like a typical over protective mom to me LOL. If she was a favorite before i would keep her long enough to see if she goes back to normal once he isn't around anymore. I have had some real psycho momma mares before and as soon as they were done playing mom they were normal again. If she is great after he is gone I wouldn't breed her again unless she produces really great foals that actually make it worth the added hassle.
  3. 1. Dice is actually very beautiful. He's well built, too. Those awkward colors come from shedding and regrowing hair. He won't look so awkward later. 2. Dice's mother, as mentioned, is way too thin. You shouldn't be able to count her ribs like that. She should have access to grain twice a day, as well as full access to CLEAN hay. Not whatever that nastiness in her pasture is. 3. Dante is super super thin. He should be on a foal grain to help, as well as his mothers milk. The mother should also be on a mare and foal formula. 4. If you aren't working with all of those horses for a few hours daily, of course they're high strung. You need to be leading the mommas around where the foals can follow, and eventually you need to be leading the foals around on halters. 5. No KIDDING she's a follower. That's her baby. How would you feel if someone came and stole your baby and you had no idea where it was? Mothers and babies shouldn't ever be separated that young. She's not dumb, and it doesn't matter if he's calling her. She wants her child in her sight.
  4. Do you know what? I was reported to the RSPCA when my mare had ribs showing (she didn't have as many as yours did though - just the last two ) with a foal at foot. I wouldn't be posting those pics over the internet not until she had filled out again. But anyway, I like your mare and your foal. I'm sure if they had a more hay and feed they'd fatten up really nicely and you'd have no problems selling. As the others said, your mare is just being a good mum. It would be more worrying if she didn't want her baby by her side. You shouldn't really separate them until the foal is at least 8-9 months old.
