How do you fight off mountain lions or scare off wild animals?
Yeah... I was caught in a situation like that yesterday. Anyone got any ideas on how I would scare off wild animals if they tried to attack me, and I didn't have any weapons available? I heard making loud noises work. Our phones were dead at night, and during the daylight we didn't have reception!

- If you plan to go anywhere that wild animal encounters are a possibility, pack a whistle and a cell phone. That way, if the critters don't run off, you can at least call 911 and they can track you via GPS.
- Make your self look bigger,(pretend you are a wolverine) loud noises, hit them in the head with a long hard stick. pick up some large rocks a pelt the bastard or my favorite...pull out a gun and blow them...to...HELL! My father always carried a cruisin axe and he said you could fight off anything with it if it was razor sharp......
- PACK A PEACE KEEPEER WHEEL GUN IN AT LEAST 357,,OK OR A LARGE KNIFE I WOULD DO BOTH OK,,,,,,,,,,,
- Cat Nip
- always camp, hike, or hunt with a partner you can outrun. . .
- Ok...time for my story of encountering 2 mountain lions. I was hunting deer in a very hilly area here in Mo. I found a good trail I knew had been used by deer as a main route. The ground in this area had a pretty good slope to it down to a shelf about 20' wide and 30 or so yards from the top. It then dropped to a steeper slope to the bottom (about 15 or so feet) which was very brushy. On top of the hill the conservation dept had, several years before, a clear cut wooded area that had grown up some to promote the brushy under growth to flourish and provide a food source for all creatures. I was laying on the slope watching the trail and indeed a doe happened by. Of course being in a bucks only area all I could do was watch her mozy on by eating the acorns as she went. A short while after she had passed out of sight. She came back through with her afterburners going...for those not familiar with the term I mean she was going to beat all heck...anyway I laid there wondering if she had caught my scent after she had passed or maybe another hunter had come in the area. All of a sudden I heard something running in the leaves and coming up behind me. I just laid there and waited for it to pass me up so I could see what it was. Well, of course it didn't do that, it stopped right behind me and started to make some sounds. At first it sounded sort of like a buck grunting. But it got longer and longer and more throaty. By this time I was thinking...Bobcat...maybe? It was then I heard a second set of footfalls behind me and a little further down slope. Well now...this ain't good I thought...If I'm going to get hurt here I'm not going down without a fight. I slowly set myself and sprang up to a standing position as fast as I could. Focusing on the one just feet down slope from me that mountain lion jumped and sskedaddleddown the ridge. I turned my attention to the one right behind me and it was already crossing the top of the ridge and into the clear cut. I would never had believed it but it's a true story. I talked to a conservation agent who came on through the camping area later that night. He told me they were bobcats....Nope I said..they weren't..not with that thick bushy long tail. He ffinallyadmitted later in the conservation that they were mountain lions. Later that year I had heard on the radio that the lions were sighted in the area. I will never forget that hunting trip...what a great memory.
- Make alot of noise that'll usually scare them off before you can even see them. If its an animal with her cubs then back away slowly or if she attacks you play dead. If there are no cubs in sight chances are they're attacking to defend territory or for food, in those cases playing dead isn't gonna help in those situations make yourself as big as possible and make alot of noise
- Aim between the eyes and don't forget to double tap! XD
- Carry a compact pistol. Even if you miss, the noise should scare it off.
- Yeah, good luck trying to fight off a mountain lion. If that thing wants you dead, you're going to die, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.
