What is the problem when two endangered animals accidently exchanged their babies?

If we ignored this,what could be the consequences???

1. If the foster-parents dont mind taking care of the babies, it should be fine. If there is any offensive behaviour against the babies, it is safest to get the babies back to their own parents. Normally in the wild, foster parents do well.
2. animals dont do that they always know who their baby is by smell alone only people can be this dumb
