How to train a greyhound?
I have a retired racing greyhound and I want to train him to use everyday commands as he has never used them before with living at the tracks. I have taught him stay but would like to teach him sit. I know that Greyhounds don't generally sit but it is possible. I have had dogs before and have tried all the typical training techniques such as treat in hand and going over the head, doing this by a wall so he can't walk backwards and press on his bum as I am saying sit but he is refusing to do it! Any help would be appreciated. And if anyone knows how to make a greyhound bark/howl on command that would be great. Thanks Guys.

- Stand so his back is against the wall or in a corner Hold the treat right above his nose and then press on his *chest* to push him into a 'sit'. Then tell him sit while he's in the process of sitting and give him the treat. With some dogs they just won't do it. My dog won't lay down all the way, but he understands what I'm saying and that's all that matters to me.. As for the barking/howling command.. it can be hard. Try to encourage him to bark by making funny noises or something (you know what will work best for your dog) and tell him 'speak' when he does and reward him. Whenever he does bark, say 'speak' and reward him. Remember, by teaching him it's good to bark, you also need to teach him quiet and teach him the boundaries so he's not barking all the time! Good luck!
- i have a lot of running sight hounds an some sit and some do not if he do s not want to do not make him teach him to eat all the food on the table that will be a lot easier great dogs have fun with him a lot of greyhounds do not bark much just watch him run and enjoy what he is best at
