My yorkie female has run out of milk for her puppies who are only three days old what do you feed the puppies?
My yorkie, Hayle, had puppies August 28,2010. She is running out of milk to feed her puppies. What do we do? What do we feed the puppies when she actually does run out of milk?

- I believe the pet store sells powder milk. Check with them.
- If the puppies are nursing well and sleeping with full tummy's, then they are getting enough milk. You can bottle feed Esbilac, which is a puppy milk replacement formula, but it isn't without risk. It is much easier for bottle fed pups to aspirate milk into their lungs due to the hole in the nipple being to big. I'd do this as a last resort.
- You feed them special milk you buy from a store or your vet, which if you're a reputable breeder you should know by now. Be careful with the milk, you can kill them if you're not careful.
- any good pet store or vet will supply special puppy milk do not give cow milk. puppies need the special puppy milk
- How do you know she is losing her milk? Are you weighing the puppies twice a day every day and writing it down? Use a digital kitchen scale from walmart. Are they gaining weight? If so, she is not running out of milk. People aren't good at telling how much milk a dog has. But puppies are really good at this. If the puppies gain weight, chill out all is well. Feed her well -- anything she'll eat -- melted vanilla ice creme, bits of steak, anything. I make "lucy loaf" for my nursing moms - a sweet potato cooked in the microwave until soft, remove skin and mash. Add 1 lb hamburger, 2 eggs, and 2 handfuls of oatmeal. Mix well, bake in greased loaf pan until done (350 degrees about an hour) feed three times a day, have dry kibble available 24/7, and tons of water all the time. She and the pups will be fine.
- if the pups are growing and gaining weight, then she's not running out of milk. Its not really easy to tell how much milk the dog is producing.. the best way to determine if she's producing enough is to monitor the puppies' growth. Obviously if they are growing, they are getting enough. If they are not gaining, then you get special milk replacement formula that is made for puppies.. you can purchase this at your vet, petshop, and even walmart and target carries milk replacer in the pet departments.
- what did your vet tell you when they went in for family check up?
- you should be supplementing them now with puppy milk replacement formula. make sure the mom is getting as much food as she wants, plenty of fresh water to drink and has seen a vet. weigh the pups every day at a set time (like 6 PM) and keep track. each pup should gain a little each day.
