- Neither dogs were in control (on a leash), so you'll probably have to pay the bills depending on the laws in your area.
- We need WAY more information in order to give you a real answer. Ask Animal Control or call the Police.
- Get your dog to the Vet ASAP and worry about the bill later. The pit bull owner should obviously pay the bill, but from the experience of way too many friends, people who own dog aggressive animals rarely want to man-up and take responsibility.
- you pay, sorry! Your dog wasn't on a leash, so you are responsible.
- BOTH of you are asking for trouble with dogs not on leashed!!! What makes you think only the pit bull owner is the one responsible???
- 1.) Do you know the owner of these dogs? If so, is there any SOLID way to prove who owns these dogs? If you can't prove it, the owners could cop out and say the dogs don't belong to them, etc... to get out of vet bills, in which case Animal Control would likely take them, and you'd have to pay the bills anyway. 2.) Where was your dog when the attack happened? If the dog was in your yard, the sidewalk, etc... then the owners would be held responsible, considering you can find/prove the owners of these dogs. If your dog was for some reason in THEIR yard, then you would be considered responsible, generally even if your dog WAS on a leash (which I'm assuming it was), and you would still end up paying the vet bills. In order to better answer this question, most of us would need a good bit more information. Generally speaking though, in the case of unleashed dogs, unless you can PROVE who owns the dogs, you end up paying the bills. Call AC and the local police, file a report, and get your dog to the vet ASAP. Also, I hope your dog is up to date on its vaccines in case the other dogs weren't. Keep copies of any and all vet reports, etc... from this incident should the owners be found and held responsible, as then they would have to pay the vet bills. ETA: Wow, I really need to stay off the computer when I'm this tired. Now that I've read the question correctly, it depends a LOT on where the attack happened. If it happened on the sidewalk, then chances are, nobody's gonna have to pay the bills but you because YOUR dog was off leash as well. You were BOTH very irresponsible in that sense. Unless you were at an off leash dog park, etc... However, if your dog was in YOUR yard when the attack happened, then the pit bull owner could still be held responsible. I still say more details are needed.
- it will depend on whose property they were on.and you need to take pictures of your dog and any other bloods or wounds You also need to call local Animal control.
- If both dogs were off leash then each owner pays their own vet bills. If your dog was on leash the owner of the off leash dog would be responsible for your vet bills.
- Unless the attack happened within the boundaries of your personal property then you each pay your own vet bills. It doesn't matter what type of dog hurt your dog, you carry the responsibility of your own dog because he/she was off leash too.
- Well if both dogs were illegally off leash, then you're both in quite a spot. If you know the dog's owner, you might get some help but you'd more than likely have to report him to the police to do that.
