How did animals gain the ability to move and which specific cell characteristics made it possible?
During evolution, all living organisms eventually divided into 2 kingdoms: plants and animals. How did that come about? Why is it that (most) animals are able to move and (most) plants are not?

- Well you're wrong about the kingdoms for a start. There are far more than just animals and plants. The major ones are:- Animals Plants Fungi Archaea Eubacteria Protista The ability to move does not define the difference between a plant and an animal. Ferns and Mosses have a swimming "sperm-like" male equivalent of pollen which is highly motile and many single-celled plants are propelled by cillia. Movement is achieved by contractile proteins. Within an individual cell are threads of protein which criss-cross the cell - when these contract and relax movement achieved. On a larger scale, these contactile proteins make up the majority of the contents of muscle cells.
