Where Can I Find a Reasonably Priced English Bulldog Puppy in Michigan?
I am looking at purchasing English Bulldog puppies, not of the puppy mill variety. This dog has to be within driving distance of the Lansing area [Michigan]. Funding is also an issue; price must be within reason. Can anyone suggest a local breeder, kennel, or animal rescue that could help me with this?

- There is no reasonable price for bull dogs..the only people that will sell you a reasonable priced Bulldog is a Back Yard Breeder, or a Petstore and these dogs will come with sicknesses, and illnesses, and tons of medical issues. Bull dogs are the most expensive dogs to breed and the most expensive dogs to care for, so it would only be normal that they are one of the most expensive dogs to buy. These dogs when not bred properly come with tons of issues and crippling health problems. The only "healthy" reasonalbe priced bull dog your gonna get is one from a shelter, they come at $150 or less and come with shots, worming and spay/neuter. There are plenty of Bull dogs in shelters that need loving homes
- any well bred Bull dog is going to be expensive.. I'd expect to pay around $2500 for a well-bred pet. These dogs are prone to a lot of health issues, and are expensive to breed. Shelter or rescue is your best bet to find an Bulldog www.petfinder.com
- VOILA! http://www.petfinder.com/pet-search?animal_type=Dog&pet_breed=English+Bulldog&location=Michigan&startsearch=Search No breeder is reasonably priced, well, they ARE reasonably priced considering how much money that they actually put into a litter, but to a buyer's standards it is anything but reasonable.
- You can search the AKC for a reputable breeder http://www.akc.org/breeds/bulldog/
- In the past week or two there have been 3 people ask similar questions...search the question for full answers. The bottom line is that there is no such thing as an inexpensive quality bulldog of any variety. You should expect to spend about $2000.00 for a quality bulldog. If you find one for much less or far more, you're probably dealing with illegal imports, mills or frauds. These breed of dogs, because of their high costs, invite more frauds, scams and illegal imports from horrific mills than any other. It also sounds like if you can't afford one you probably don't have the funds to properly care for one...honestly, if that's the case, no breed is right for you at the present time. Puppies require numerous visits to the vet for the first few months of their lives and then, provided they're healthy, once or twice annually. Bulldogs are part of the bracheophalic breeds (sorry I don't remember how to spell it, but it means short muzzled, which translates into breathing issues), many require specialized vets that may cost even more. Skin conditions and allergies are extremely common and require additional knowledge and proper diet. The less reputible the source, the more likely there will be significant health issues that will result in even higher medical and veterinary expenses. It doesn't sound like you have the knowledge or the means for this right now.
- They often have to be artificially inseminated and almost always need a Cesarean. Add to that screening for genetic disorders you are going to have to pay big bucks for a healthy pup. You can try contacting some local rescues and let them know you want an English bulldog, but if they get one in, it might not be a purebred. It probably wouldn't be a puppy. You may just have to wait and save up some money.
