Cross Breeds

Can you think of endangered animals that are also indicator species?

Kind of like the endangered Polar Bear indicating global warming, or the Silvery Minnow, which is dying out due to the pollution in the Rio Grande

Public Comments

  1. Some kinds of frogs probably. They are good indicators of pollution because they absorb so much through their skin and are prone to deformities etc.
  2. There is a unique species in Utah Lake named the June Sucker. Because of alterations to the streambeds by humans and pollution of the one lake it lives in it is starting to die out. But by tracking the numbers of the June Sucker, scientist have been able to track the decline of the entire ecosystem.
  3. Breaking News Polar bears not going extinct, actually increasing. 5000 in the 60's to 25-30,000 now. If risk is there it is due to hunting, not warming, the famous picture of 2 bears on ice was taken from shore, 200 feet from the ice floe.
