Cross Breeds

What is the chance of a pitbull turning on you or other dogs it lives with?

If raised in a gentle environment, where it is never tied up, not beaten, fed well and loved completely, what is the chance that at some point the dog will turn against anyone in my household or against one of the other 4 dogs in the house. And what is the best way to punish bad behavior without causing aggression? it is also being raised from a puppy

  1. A pitbull is a ticking timebomb. They were bred for fighting, its in their blood. I firmly believe ANY dog could attack, however, dogs like the pitbull, when they attack cause horrible damage, if not death. If you are thinking of bringing this breed into your household, and there is anyone you care about in your household, think twice. No dog can replace a loved one. Buy a Lab, or golden retriever. Pitbulls are very cute, but not worth the risks.
  2. OH pish-posh! I am sorry if you have been miss informed by the media and their retarded "EVIL SLOBBERING MUTT" bio on the pitties My mother has had a number of these dogs(amstaffs) and let me tell you - they are incredibly loyal. I have grown up around this breed of dog and not once have i ever ever ever even been nipped at, let alone bitten. They ARE good around toddlers (I WAS A TODDLER!). You need to train them not to "jump up" or any of that regular dog behaviour which is the same that you would expect from ANY other large or medium dog breed. They WILL NOT turn against their own family or compainions, however - if a stranger was to make an unruly move against any member of your family, WATCH OUT - they are protective and if not trained properly will react to a stranger making sudden movements around you and your family the dog might missinterpret that as a threat. Just like any dog! overall they are just like any other big breed of dog - they hurt when they bite. full stop. they are no more aggresive than many other dogs it's just that the media has given them a terrible name. They do require a firm but loving owner and will need to be taught their place in the family. Again.. just like any dog. ____ To punish a pittie is just the same as other dogs. Never ever hit them, or even motion that you are going to hit them. A firm NO! will do very well when he does something he should not do. Use your angry voice and say NO! when he tries to jump up on you, and then Ignore him, continually saying NO! and then turning away each time he tries. This works because when they jump up they are doing it for attention, and if they realise that it will actually reduce attention they will stop. You can also send him outside if he does something wrong.
  3. For at least the 849th time.........there's NO SUCH BREED as "pitbull"!!!!!!! There's American Staffordshire Terrier American Pit Bull Terrier Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Bull terrier All are wrongly called "pitbull" by the ignorant...*&* that word is used by MUTT/MAKERS to scam the gullible! ALL the "bully-breeds"-correct grouping- were & ARE selectively bred & culled for a couple of hundred years to WANT to fight.=EACH OTHER!!!! ANY that showed any threat to humans were KILLED! Do you comprehend GENETICS at all? You ****CAN'T**** train teach force "abuse" ANY dog into fighting. They will or they won't! Dogs do *NOT* "turn on" anything...anyONE!. TRAINING makes good dogs -not breeds. NONE of your silly "causes" have anything to do w/PROPER training....NONE "cause" ANY bad behaviors.....LACK of discipline will!
  4. BA to D.E.Bunker. I agree completely with them. It's all about genetics.
  5. "Pitbulls" have NO more chance of turning on their owners or other dogs than any other breed. ANY dog has the potential to be dangerous or to be a sweetheart that would never harm anyone or anything. It all depends on how they are raised and the training and care they receive.
