Question For Pitbull Owners with Other Dogs?

Have your pitbulls ever attacked any of your other dogs? Is it true that you can't really leave a dog and a pitbull alone despite knowing each other well and even growing up together? Is the dog agression instinct too strong in pitbulls? What is the best way to minimize the occurence of fights?

  1. training and teach the dog from puppy hood
  2. I know a pit and a lab that live together and they are best pals. The only "attacking" ever done is playing. Best way? Train your dog and socialize it well.
  3. Try to bring the pitbull to dog parks and anytime he/she tries to attack yank the leash back and give the command no sternly. Otherwise socialize the dog from when it is a puppy.
  4. I breed German Shepherds and the only dog I own to get along with every other dog I have is my APBT. She gets along with every other female and of course my studs (actually she does get snippy with one of my males, it's pretty funny...although it's probably because he's always sniffing, mounting, and otherwise pestering her). Never leave 2 dogs alone when you're not there. That said I do it all the time. It's still a risk, a stupid risk. I don't care WHAT breed you have. If you leave your dogs loose with eachother when you leave you're being stupid -raises hand- I do it every day so I'm part of that group. Just don't come here crying if/when something bad happens!
  5. I have had many pitbulls in my life and they have never got in a fight with the other dogs that they have known their whole lives. My last pitbull, copper, was very good with other dogs but also very protective of me. He wouldnt let any other dog and sometimes people get near me. But i have seen several times when our dogs will get aggressive with other dogs that the family brings over during family events and stuff. I would say that the best way to minimize that 'pitbull effect' that people always say they have is to get a pitbull at a young age, if you are going to have one. And raise it with other dogs. But I have adopted a pit from the shelter one time and she was the sweetest dog ever and never messed with anybody. She nursed two litters of puppies that werent even hers. So really it depends on the way the dog was raised. I hope this info helps you!
  6. I have a friend with 2 pits, a gsd and a mini poodle. Guess who rules.----the poodle.
