How long after birth of puppies can the female get fixed?

My female Chihuahua just had 6 puppies and now we want to get her fixed. I don't want to do it too soon because she is still nursing. Puppies are now 4 weeks old. Thank you.

1. my grandmas dog recently had puppys too :) I'd ask a vet this question when you bring the puppies in to have them checked around the 6 week mark.
2. Keep her away from other dogs and wait till finished raising pups.Good luck...
3. About eight weeks. Get the puppies fixed, too. There's way too many chihuahuas and chihuahua mixes in the world...we don't need you making any more.
4. She'll need to wait until her milk has dried up. But you'll want to do it before her next heat cycle. This can happen as quickly as 4 months after her last cycle, so don't put it off. :)
5. My lab was born along with her 13 other brother's and sister's during surgery and her mom was fixed right then, and their cat was fixed the day her kittens were born. The mom won't, or usually won't, stop nursing her pups until they are weaned. I have heard of tons of stories were cats and dogs have lactated for puppies and kittens that were not theirs. You can fix her now, just watch her to make sure the puppies won't tear the stiches
