Cross Breeds

Is their a difference between arab and arabian horses?

I was wondering... is arab a shorter name for the arabian, or is it a totally different breed? thanks.

  1. It's just a shorter name for Arabian, just like Tennessee Walking Horses are called Walkers or Appaloosas are called Appys
  2. Nope, its just a shorter name for us lazy people who don't feel like saying arabian.
  3. Nope just a shorter name. The only different arabs would be breeds like the egyptian arabian, spanish arabian, polish arabian, ect.
  4. nope, same breed
  5. no its just a shortener
  6. Yeh, they are the same breed. Arab is just a shorter name for arabians I hope this helps :)
  7. No, it's just a shorter way of saying the same thing. Technically the difference is that "arab" is a noun - your horse is definitely an arab because he's from Arabia - while "arabian" is an adjective; your Arab horse is Arabian. You call Afghani people Arabs, but they're still Arabian - and they speak Arabian (or Arabic, which is a different adjective meaning the same thing). Here in Norway we only have one word for the breed, we call it "Araber" which is the equivalent noun of "arab". But because of the extra syllable I still tend to translate it into "Arabian" when I'm writing English on here - I suppose being Norwegian has got its flaws! If I ever called a horse "arabisk" in Norwegian; which would mean "arabian/arabic", that'd just make no sense at all. It'd sound as if I was trying to describe the nationality of the horse.
  8. nope same horse
  9. Arab and arabian are the same breed of horse, but there are also the arab derivatives, like the arabian warmblood, partarab, arabian pony, arabian riding pony, arabian stockhorse, quarab, and the anglo arab. All these derivatives have their own breed registers within the arabian horse society studbook.
