If you bite a dog on the ear will it really listen to you?
My Crush has a pit bull and it always barks at me, like it doesn't like me. They say he is very nice to other people and find it strange he acts this way with me. In the movie snow dogs he bites the dog on the ear and the dog respects him. Does that work, or will i look plain stupid for biting him on the ear. I love animals and this is the first one i've ever been frightened of.

- That's total bull. The best way to get a dog to like you is to feed it.
- You should never refer to movies as a way to train or interact with animals. If you bite a dog on the ear, especially if it acts aggressive towards you in the first place, it will probably bite you back a lot harder. Just try being nice to it, and don't act like you're afraid of it. Animals can tell when you're scared or upset, and it will affect their attitude.
- Yeah, that wont work. Buy toys with a hollow inside to put treats in. Get your crush to keep the dog on the lead and lay the toy down, once he is occupied with the toy he will leave the barking out, keep doing it every time you are at his and he will soon associate you with good things!! Take the lead off once he is distracted. Then in time you will be able to go near the dog without it being all Rawrrrrr!! Good luck!!
- The dog will bite you back. Movies are movies and you will look stupid. Stupid and bitten and in pain. The way to a dog's heart is through its stomach, and you never look a pit bull in the eye.
- Ya, you'd look plain stupid for doing something you saw in a dumb movie - plus it sounds as if your "crush" is trying to get your face crushed = for real.
- Biting a dog that does not like you on the ear is actually a good way to get your face torn off in self defense. This sort of behavior would only work on a dog that already has some amount of respect for you. Are you uneasy around the dog? With its consistent behavior I'd imagine so, and they pick up on that. It may make him uneasy in turn, or he may be picking on you, chipping away at a perceived weakness i.e. bullying. :P Just ignore the dog when you're over there. If you get all fluttery and anxious around its owner, whom you have a crush on, that may also explain it. The dog can pick up on that anxiety and all he knows is it's only when you're around his master, which will make him uneasy. Just relax around the dog. Ignore him. Don't say hi, don't pet him if he approaches, don't attempt any contact with him until he's nice and calm. Otherwise, pretend he isn't there.
- Dogs are usually good judges of people. There is something about you that the dogs does not trust. You don't know enough about dogs to ever try to make friends with it. You would not be able to get close enough to bite any part of the dog. I am not against to biting a dog but there is a time & reasons for doing so. This is not one of those times. Have her put the dog in another room while you are there. If my dogs didn't trust you, you would be gone. They are really good at judging character.
- Try it and let us know how it goes.
